Eligibility
Eligibility for Enrollment
It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the basic Japanese characters of hiragana and katakana before your first day of class. Several online resources are available to learn these kana (Japanese alphabet). Visit Resources for more information.
The program is available to students from around the world. English support will be offered in most classrooms so we expect you to be well-versed in the English language.
To be eligible for this program, students who enroll are:
- College students with minimum 2.50 GPA
- High school juniors and seniors with accumulative GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted)
- Adult non-students, graduate, or post-graduate students
Technical Requirements
Our virtual classroom uses Zoom and Google Classroom. All you need is a decent and reliable computer, a microphone, webcam, headphones, printer, and high-speed internet connection (upload and download speed should be greater than 25 Mbps, preferably greater than 40 Mbps) and you’re good to go!
Official Transcript
You can take the courses without a school of record, or through one of our partner or affiliate schools. Students who take the course without credit will earn a certificate of completion and a grade report. Some colleges, universities, or high schools may accept the credit directly through one of these means.
Check ahead of time with your school to find out whether or not they will accept our credits. Showing them our partner school website, KCP International, and the online syllabi and course lesson plans may help in their decision.
Students who are unsure about transfer of credit with their school can participate through one of our sponsor schools, often called school of records. They are Western Washington University, the University of Idaho, or Lincoln University. They will provide a transcript at the successful end of a course.
What do you need to be eligible?
Familiarity with hiragana and katakana, a high-speed internet connection, and a few more requirements are needed to join the program.
