Japanese 102: Elementary Japanese II

Become familiar with basic Japanese grammar and sentence structures.

  • Offered: Winter (Part of Summer Intensive 1st Year which includes Japanese 101)
  • Total Hours: 60
  • Recommended Credits: 4
  • Prerequisite: Successful completion of  Japanese 101
Objectives:
  • Become familiar with basic Japanese grammar and sentence structures.
  • Develop communication skills using a limited range of grammar and vocabulary.
  • Get acquainted with approximately 250 plus new vocabulary.
  • Learn how to read and write approximately 60 new Kanji.

Completing this course is equivalent to CEFR JF standard A2 level.

Course Learning Goals:
  • Explain property and state of things and events with adjectives.
  • Explain the detailed location of an object or person in a room, city, and so on.
  • Introduce your hobbies and family.
  • Order at a restaurant, ask someone a favor, and ask friends to hang out.
  • In a daily life situation, express your actions, hopes, and desires in easy conversation.
  • Describe Japanese annual events through conversation with Japanese.
Preparing for Class

In addition to the live classroom experiences, you will also have 1 hour or more of on demand video or PowerPoint slides to preview and review each week. To be successful in this course, plan on budgeting 5 hours or more to homework or outside of class study. Previewing before class, and after class are essential to be successful in this program.

For first-second year sequence programs, beginning in Fall and ending in Spring, classes will be offered twice a week. For our Summer Intensive program, classes will be held four times a week.
